The V10 supercar is reborn with an advanced new quattro all-wheel-drive and now increased power up to 610 PS. With up to 50kg savings in weight the R8 can be hurried to a top speed of 205mph and 0-62mph in just 3.2 seconds.
Behind the wheel the New R8 will feel like a racing car, all functions, driver oriented and easy to operate even at the limit, with your hands firmly on the wheel. From the older V10 I drove at the Audi event this week in Althorp, on road performance is a smile inducing, more than adequate. This new version can only be an epic fantasy.
Available in two versions, the highest powered model produces 610ps and the other model 540ps. The R8 now incorporates COD, (cylinder-on-demand) technology. The engine deactivates injection and ignition on half the power plant. The result, improved economy and emissions around town. The R8 V10 can return up to 23.9mpg with CO2 emissions of around 275 grams. Cylinders-on-demand will make the car more docile around town.
An electrically powered e-tron and R8 Race car LMS version are in development. The second generation of the Audi supercar will be making its debut at the Geneva motorshow.
The new V10 Supercar is available to order in the UK from May 2015 with deliveries starting toward the end of the year. Deposits are already being taken. If my pension pot was just a bit larger…
