To Celebrate the next Chapter in the Defender Adventure. Years ago the original Land Rover Design Concept was sketched on a beach on Anglesey.

Land Rover have returned to the place where it all began. A celebratory year for the iconic Defender model begins, a unique 1km Land Rover Sand Drawing was made at Red Wharf Bay, Anglesey to mark the launch of three new Limited Edition models and the next unwritten chapters to a memorable story.

The UK production of the Defender is ending in December 2015. The sand drawing is a tribute to the moment in 1947 when Maurice Wilks, engineering director of Rover first sketched the shape in the sand and proposed the idea to his brother Spencer, the MD of Rover at the time. “That was the start of it all, the conception of Land Rover.” said Stephen Wilks, son of Maurice.

Perhaps it would have been exciting to see another V8 Defender, to follow the epic 50th NAS Anniversary Edition Model. One of the best which I purchased new.

There is a possibility of JLR maintaining production of the current Defender at an overseas location after UK production ceases. This would possibly see low volume production maintained for sale outside the EU.
