Jaguar is one of the most recognised automotive brand names on earth,

so getting the opportunity to drive a beautifully crafted car from the British motor manufacturer’s stable has to be on the wish list of many.

Well, happily, (and I don’t want to sound immodest) I was recently invited to try out one of the sexiest cats on the block – the F-TYPE.

I immediately bonded with the Jaguar F-TYPE on a primal level. It has got to be the most enthusiastic performance-focused sports car the eminent automaker has ever built.

The machine, evaluated in S Coupé guise here, is propelled by Jaguar’s 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol lump. The engine develops 375bhp, allowing 0-62mph to arrive south of five seconds on to a capped top speed of 171mph.

The car sits low on its intimidating rear haunches and exemplifies the design vision of the stunning Jaguar C-X16 concept sports coupé that first appeared at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The looks are so extraordinary they’re almost over-the-top. The F-TYPE Coupé has a theatrical stance which is defined by three main styling characteristics. The first two are the beefy front and rear wings, the third being the flowing roof profile which provides an unbroken silhouette while highlighting the conical cabin that sits on broad alloy wheels.

To accomplish the necessary aesthetic at the rear of the car, the F-TYPE features a concealed rear spoiler that takes a seat within the shut-line of the boot hatch, and stands up at speed in order to balance front and rear lift. It automatically rises at 70mph and goes back down when the needle drops below 50mph, reducing lift by up to 120kg.

The girth of the tail is emphasised by trim, full-LED lamps that fold all the way around the wings almost to the trailing edge of the rear wheel-arches. These lights showcase ‘hidden-until-lit’ tech, appearing solid until one of their functions is activated.

The F-TYPE Coupé also features a ‘ribbon of light’ LED high-mounted stop light, which is secreted at the top of the beautifully engineered hatchback. This is obtainable with a power-driven open/close functionality and is made from composite materials; the boot-volume itself being up to a handy 407-litres.

Inside, there are buckskin sports seats and a leather swathed steering wheel. The driver-oriented cabin clearly conveys the car’s pedigree and sporting aptitude, through a variation of tight and technical styling.

On the road, it’s soon clear that the Jaguar Coupé produces even more driver incentive than the much-admired F-TYPE Convertible. It combines seductive design with avant-garde kit and performance, which is truly astounding. It will wheel-spin easily if you set off too rapidly, but the Jaguar generally provides you with an exceptional sports car experience because of its particularly stiff all-aluminium body structure.

The car makes use of an eight-speed close-ratio Quickshift transmission, which is optimised for feisty driving. You can salsa up and down the cogs with full manual control from the SportShift selector or steering wheel-mounted paddles.

The superlative sports car also comes kitted out with Intelligent Stop/Start gadgetry. When conditions allow, this automatically kills engine when the Jag comes to a halt and your foot is on the brake pedal. When the anchors are released, the system can re-start the V6 in less time than it takes for your size 11 to move from the brake to the throttle. The equipment offers fuel economy and emissions benefits of up to five per cent.

To cut a long story short, this Jaguar F-TYPE is enchanting, exacting, exciting and eye-catching.  It’s one of the best real-world sports Coupés available today.
