Outlander PVEV Creates a Buzz in Brighton

The Outlander PHEV proved a major draw at this year’s The Eco Technology Show, Brighton.

The local Mitsubishi dealership from Old Shoreham Road, Southwick, had a prime display inside the entrance to the event at the Brighton Centre. Over 130 businesses and organisations showcased a host of low-carbon ideas and innovations to promote sustainability.

The game-changing Outlander PHEV reviewed by Drive here, has phenomenal eco credentials, an EV range of 32.5 miles and emissions as low as 44g/km. This means no, to paying road tax and making it exempt from the CC London congestion charge. It also has a Benefit in Kind of just five per cent for company car drivers, giving them a virtual pay rise of several thousand pounds a year.

The full-sized family SUV’s hybrid fuel technology, using both electric and petrol power, gives it an official fuel consumption figure of 148mpg. It also meets the high levels of criteria needed for the Government’s Plug-in Car Grant for ultra-low emission vehicles.

Mitsubishi Matters caught up with Brighton Mitsubishi Dealer Principal Mike Evans on the concluding day of the two-day event, where he told us:‘It’s gone very well. We’ve had a lot of interest in the car. You have many electric vehicles here but our hybrid with this sort of mileage is really catching everyone’s attention, especially with the people who are exhibiting here, because they want their green credentials to go all the way through.

‘We’ve booked 12 test drives today and we’re only halfway through the day and they are very serious enquiries. The PHEV is going from strength to strength. It’s out all the time on test drives and we’ve sold nine already within the first few weeks. Mitsubishi has got it right – it’s state of the art, it’s got everything you want, it’s practical, it’s a four-wheel-drive and the economy is fantastic. It’s just ticking so many boxes for a lot of people.’

Mike added how beneficial it was to be at the show – now in its third year. ‘It’s also like a big networking exhibition because everybody is in the same field, everyone talks to each other, they’re selling each other eco technology. It’s working really, really well that way. We’ve made a lot of new contacts and seen a lot of innovative things.

‘And the timing of the event was perfect too. I got invited two years ago to the very first one but the i-MiEV wasn’t out at that point so we couldn’t do it. Last year we didn’t really have a vehicle, but this year it’s just fallen into place, so we’re just so pleased to be here. We’ll certainly look at coming back next year.’
