Arguably one of the best looking and upmarket convertibles, the Audi A5 Cabriolet.

A Real Head Turner Cabriolet from Audi.

The A5 Cabriolet, has it all. A truly elegant convertible. Audi have kept the fabric roof which means a larger boot and lighter weight. A different approach to its main competitors like the BMW.

The A5 Cabriolet line comprises of quite a selection of models. Starting with a 1.8-litre TFSI and 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engine and a choice of four diesels TDI’s with power outputs from 148, 177, 205 and 245 bhp in the 3.0-litre S5 top of the range quattro.

The car tested, was one of the better choices in the range, for power, refinement and economy. It was equipped with the 2.0 TDI with 177ps matched to the six speed manual transmission. With the S line trim, which included the luxury acoustic roof and superb headlights with daytime running lights.

A totally refined and versatile luxury express with the roof up and a true boulevard cruiser with it down. Even on the move, roofless the car is a joy to drive and quiet at speed. The acoustic roof is so well insulated it is more like the hard top saloon. In this summer weather the ability to raise or lower the roof very swiftly on the move, at up to 30mph is worth every penny.

Audi are brilliant at matching roof colours on their convertibles. The model tested had a superb colour combination with the Daytona grey pearl effect paintwork in combination with a marvellous red roof.

Driving the Audi, immediately you appreciate the sheer elegance and engineering that has gone into this car. Great to drive, but too large to throw about. An excellent long distance and very comfortable car with no rattles in the cabin often expected from a cabriolet.

On the road, you sit pretty low in the car, big and comfy seats equipped with the marvellous head level heating system, a real pleasure having warm air blown on your neck. The dash is of the expected quality for a big Audi, solid and well made, easy to navigate with soft tactile finishes and smooth metallics. The upgraded sound system and technology package in the test car  was worth every penny. Easy to use, it sounded excellent, even on the move, top down.

The A5 is a big car to manoeuvre, generally visibility is good thanks to the ‘parking system plus’ option with front and rear parking sensors. The rear seats are adequate and practical but for regular travel with larger adults on longer journeys it would prove more difficult. The boot at 320 litres a fair size for this type of car.

Generally this dream cabriolet would be guaranteed to keep any owner happy, the feel good factor is priceless. A large cabriolet and a wise choice with just 127 g/km, £110 annual road tax, great economy and refinement in abundance.
