EcoVelocity – Go and Drive an Electric Car at the Green Motor Show

In Driving in the UK by Jonathan Humphrey

EcoVelocity is once again nearly here. The event being held at the ExCel has revealed the line-up of electric and low carbon vehicles available.

Next week from the 5th – 13th May The EcoVelocity paddock will feature some exciting electric cars –  The fabulous USA Fisker Karma will be over from the USA.  The Lightning GT – an exclusive British high technology 100% electric super car. The popular Tesla, the electric car from Silicon Valley. The Delta E4 Coupe – an ultra efficient electric sports car. It really is time you got out and tried an electric car. I have been a big fan for a while now, it isn’t until you really experience one, driving it, you get the full picture.

EcoVelocity organiser Giles Brown said: “Motorists interested in low carbon cars will be able to take a 3.5 mile test drive of a variety of electric and low carbon vehicles from Chevrolet, Citroën, Honda, Nissan, Mia, Peugeot and Vauxhall.”

“The best way for motorists to decide on changing to a greener vehicle is by test driving and talking to experts – car buying is a big and emotional process. EcoVelocity offers a unique opportunity by offering numerous test drives from different car makers and access to car buying experts all under one roof.”

Taking centre stage at EcoVelocity will be ‘The Theatre’ where exhibitors will take to the stage and present interactive discussion forums about greener motoring for show visitors to participate in. Taking to the stage will be TheChargingPoint.com, Schneider Electric, EDF Energy, The Energy Saving Trust, The Green Car Guide and Michelin.

The UK’s premier specialist electric vehicle website TheChargingPoint.com will be taking over the theatre stage at 11am and 1pm on the weekends of 5th/6th and 12th/13th May. The four 20-30 minute morning sessions with the UK’s top electric car manufacturers, including Vauxhall and Renault, will help give visitors a flavour of each manufacturer’s current EV line-up, as well as what the brands’ plans are for plug-in cars over the next few years.

The four afternoon sessions are likely to be just as much of a hit, as TheChargingPoint.com managing editor, Will Dron, talks one-on-one with celebrity EV drivers and enthusiasts including Red Dwarf’s Robert Llewellyn and Smooth FM DJ Mark Goodier. All sessions will include a 10-minute Q&A session. Throughout the show, visitors can go to TheChargingPoint.com at stand EV207 for any EV-related questions.

For bike fans, Get On will be exhibiting a range of small capacity petrol and electric motorcycles as well as providing expert advice on the benefits of life on two-wheels. They’ll also be offering visitors the opportunity to book a 1-hour free test ride session at any one of 200 centres across the country. Get On represents the leading motorcycle manufacturers, dealers and other companies in the UK.

Also exhibiting at the show will be event sponsors EDF energy, TheChargingPoint.com, Source London, Rolec, Zero Carbon World, Schneider Electric, ZipCar (the car sharing company) and Michelin. Each exhibitor will demonstrate to visitors how they can help make changes that will make their lives more sustainable.
