Jaguar has confirmed that it is bring the New F-Type into production. The All new F-Type will be available mid 2013 as a roadster.
The Global Brand Director of Jaguar, Adrian Hallmark, said: “We showed the Jaguar C-X16 concept in September 2011, and the reaction to it has been so positive that we’ve accelerated our development of an all-new Jaguar sports car. The core appeal of Jaguar’s cars is their sporting heart, and that heart will beat stronger than ever before in the F-TYPE. The F-TYPE is coming.”
[portfolio_slideshow]Jaguar’s industry-leading knowledge of all-aluminium construction will be a given in the new car. The F-TYPE will launch first as a convertible roadster, strictly a two-seater sports car with a stunning and rewarding drive. New petrol engines will be available – including a new power plant family to be confirmed. Sources have revealed a new 3.0-litre V6 powerplant, which is essentially the XK’s 5.0-litre V8 with two cylinders removed. This new engine is expected to be offered in normally aspirated form with around 250bhp and in supercharged R form with around 375bhp. The F-Type will sit below the excellent Jaguar XK and the pricing is expected to be in the £55-£70k range.
The F-TYPE’s development schedule moves to final on-road testing, with engineering prototypes now leaving Jaguar’s Castle Bromwich plant – the same plant at which the production cars will be built. Watch Martin Brundle in secret testing with the car.
Ian Callum, Jaguar’s Director of Design, said: “A true sports car needs to be pure in both its purpose and its form. The C-type, D-type and E-type Jaguars were all sports cars that held true to this principle in their era, and the F-TYPE will hold true to that same principle in its time.”
The F-TYPE will join Jaguar’s existing range of cars – the XF saloon and Sportbrake, XJ saloon and XK coupe/convertible. Full F-TYPE technical and range details will be announced later in 2012.
