Magnifico Ferrari F40 – Silverstone Classic

In Events by Jonathan Humphrey

If last year was anything to go by, once again the The Silverstone Classic is looking to be one of the places to be this summer.  A great day out for all the family and with something for everyone.

Just another of the amazing treats in store this year – a world record gathering of Ferrari Cars to celebrate 25 years of the Ferrari F40. The remarkable Ferrari F40 one of the finest super cars rated by many as era’s Finest. The Ferrari owners club is rallying all the owners to bring their cars for the largest ever F40 salute on the famous circuit at Silverstone.

Nigel Chiltern-Hunt, the Ferrari club co-ordinator  and himself an owner of one of these superlative super cars.

“Our original aim was to get at least 25 of these Ferraris together and, as I have contacted owners, I have been gratified that so many want to be part of the celebration – so much so that we now have more than 50 F40s registered for the event with more still to come!”

The Ferrari F40 was first introduced in 1987 to honour Ferrari’s 40th anniversary and was the final car commissioned by the legend Enzo Ferrari – The cars were over indulged with a dramatic ultra-lightweight body designed by Pininfarina. Which featured many carbon-fibre/Kevlar panels/plastic windows. The supercar was powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 developing 478 horsepower, performance was as expected, staggering. The F40 was the world’s first true 200mph production road car. It is known by it fans and cognoscenti as ‘the greatest supercar’ of all time.

With an original price tag of close to £300,000, just 1315 F40s were produced in Maranello between 1987 and 1992 – and no fewer than 50 of these stunning Italian sportscars will be on show at Silverstone in July.

A parade of all the F40s is being arranged for the Sunday. This will be the largest gathering of F40s ever seen anywhere in the world and will certainly beat the club’s own previous record of 40 F40s seen at the Silverstone Classic in 2007.

Along with the Ferrari Owners’ Club of Great Britain, many other car clubs have already announced their own special celebrations at this summer’s huge three-day Silverstone Classic festival. These include 50th birthday celebrations for the AC Cobra, Lotus Elan and MGB. The UK’s first BMW Z-Fest will be on show to mark 60 years of the BMW Car Club in Great Britain.
