Twenty-six of the UK’s greenest new cars of 2013 have been selected for the awards

The most scientifically based green car awards the Next Green Car Awards 2013 judges cars across eight vehicle categories. The winners will be announced on Wednesday 14th August 2013.

Next Green Car uses its unique Green Car Rating to rank the greenest new cars to come to market, honouring the most innovative and well designed low emission models with the Next Green Car Awards.

To be selected for one of the Awards 2013, new models must be commercially available direct from the manufacturer for purchase or order in the UK during 2013, or early in 2014.

Eligible models on the Awards shortlists are primarily selected for their low Green Car Rating. However, account is also taken of the level of innovation, value, drive experience and design.

In addition to CO2 emissions, the Green Car Rating assesses the impacts of seven other emissions (including NOx and particulates) across the life cycle of the vehicle, making it possible to compare different fuels and drive-trains on a single scale.

As noted by Dr Ben Lane, Managing Director of Next Green Car: “2013 continues to see the roll-out of high quality plug-in electric models supported by Government funding in the form of purchase grants and an expanding national charging network. With an increasing number of fuel efficient petrol and diesel models also being launched, UK car buyers wanting to go green and cut fuel costs have never had so much choice.”

In conjunction with Next Green Car’s unique Green Car Rating, searchable database, new tools and calculators, the Next Green Car Awards provides car buyers with an independent view on the best green cars to buy in 2013.”
