The Audi RS 6 and RS 7 Driven to New Heights

In Audi, Short Cuts by Jonathan Humphrey

Just when you thought the pinnacle had been reached with the Audi RS6 and RS 7. The top of the range Audi RS Performance Quattro models.

It appears Audi didn’t think so with their New performance versions of the RS 6 and RS 7 available from November.

The new cars now feature the 4.0 Litre TFSI V8 engine uprated by 45ps to 605ps. Utilising a new overboost function on demand torque is increased to 750Nm. These family cars seriously challenge a supercar with a bug splattering 0 to 62mph in 3.7 seconds and top speeds of up to 189mph.

The new cars do however retain the best in class fuel economy and efficiency figures. With 29.9 mpg for the RS6 Avant and 29.7 mpg for the RS 7 Sportback and emissions of 223 and 221 g/km CO2. This efficiency is enabled using the Audi cylinder on demand system, which only activates four of the eight cylinders when under part load.

The cars use an eight-speed tiptronic transmission maximised and matched to the extreme engines. In combination with the legendary quattro permanent four wheel drive dynamically matched to the RS adaptive air suspension which can lower the body of the car up to 20 millimetres.

Priced from £86,000 for the RS 6 and £91,600 for the RS 7, first deliveries start in February 2016.
