With sales accelerating, Toyota has now sold over 7 Million of its hybrid cars worldwide.
At the end of September they had sold 7.053 million. A million hybrid cars have been sold in just 9 months. Toyota’s commitment to reduce the impact of motor vehicles on the environment is clear.
Toyota’s range of cleaner, more efficient hybrids continues to grow. With a range of 28 different passenger car models sold in more than 90 countries and regions. More new models are on the way for 2014-2015 including 15 new hybrids and some exciting new models for the UK from Lexus, the NX 300h crossover and RC 300h coupe.
Calculations from Toyota from 30 September 2014 claim, Toyota hybrid vehicles have reduced the amount of CO2 entering the atmosphere – by approximately 49 million tonnes, compared to the impact the same number of equivalent petrol-powered vehicles would have produced. It also estimates its hybrids have saved around 18,000 million litres of petrol. CO2 entering the atmosphere is believed to be a cause of global warming
Toyota first started hybrid vehicle production in August 1997 with the launch in Japan of the Coast Hybrid EV bus. This was soon followed in December by the first generation Prius hybrid cars. The Prius was the world’s first mass-produced hybrid car. In the UK Prius launched Toyota’s hybrid market in 2000 and now combined with the Lexus and Toyota Brands have a full range of hybrid cars available to suit all drivers.
